Age Positive Project

The Age Positive project encourages and supports individuals over the age of 65 to get involved in Timebanking across Plymouth. By participating and becoming more connected within their communities, Timebank members often experience reduced feelings of isolation and loneliness. Timebanking has also been long associated with increased self-confidence and improved physical and mental well-being.

People aged 65 and over have so much to offer their communities, yet many find it difficult to seek informal help and support. Timebanking provides a way to connect through friendship, practical help, and a genuine sense of belonging. There’s no pressure to commit regularly—people can take part as much or as little as they like.

Age Positive will be running one-off events across Plymouth, alongside weekly informal local social gatherings. These events offer a welcoming space to meet others, chat, build relationships, and enjoy shared activities or hobbies. It’s a chance to connect with others, try something new, and enjoy good company along the way.

Age Positive is funded by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) through Plymouth City Council as part of Plymouth’s Integrated Care Approach (ICOPE). A partnership between Timebank South West, Improving Lives Plymouth and Wolseley Trust (Healthy Futures) will work closely together to engage people aged 65+ years through GP and health referral and by promoting the project to the community and voluntary sector and to older people directly.  Age Positive aims to positively impact on the physical and emotional well-being of people aged 65+ years across Plymouth.

It’s always a pleasure to refer to Timebank as I genuinely think it is a fantastic concept, and I always get such good feedback from clients who attend. I see many familiar faces when I pop along to the Plymstock group, which tells me that my clients who I refer, continue to go along, long after they have finished seeing me.
